The Longest Day

68 years ago today the Allied high command sat on pins and needles. We don't appreciate today how it could have easily gone the other way.

They fought, they died...they triumphed.

It was, indeed, quite a close call on Omaha beach. Utah wasn't much better, but there was at least one beach where we (the Allies) caught the Germans with their pants down. I recall reading a book about the invasion, and one of the beaches warranted about two pages' worth of attention. I think maybe three shots were fired against the Allies on that beach. Regardless, every man who stepped into the landing craft is a hero in my opinion.
