CLIPS!!!
MAGAZINES!!!
Some magazines are internal, BUT ARE STILL MAGAZINES!!!
NOT THE SAME THING!!!
Load bullets cartridges on to CLIPS (thanks AZfederalist!)
CLIPS load MAGAZINES
MAGAZINES load guns.
M1 Garands use an en bloc clip to load their internal magazines and the clip stays in the magazine until it is empty, but CLIP still loads MAGAZINE, MAGAZINE loads gun.
You do not have to use a CLIP to load a MAGAZINE, but you will ALWAYS use a MAGAZINE to load the gun*.
Any questions?
Any questions?
I really don't know why this bothers me so much, but it does.

Lol, well that didn't take long.
I feel the same way whenever the media refer to any automatic weapon as a "machine gun."
No, it fucking well IS NOT.
LOL Okeedokee...that about clears it up!
well, there Are moon clips for certain revolvers, yanno.
AGirl, I've always been a quick study. :D
Erin, most of what the media refers to in the way of guns makes me nuts like that. I trust you noticed the clips for the Mosin? I thought about using it for the pics, but I like my little Arisaka carbine.
Kirk, glad to be of service.
Critter, refer to the *note. (wise-ass) ;)
(but in the interest of fairness, if you were talking about revolvers it would be as if someone referred to a speed loader as a cylinder.)
Thanks for dropping by everyone!
SO Last Year
Tee hee.
Erin: Automatic for a semi-auto pistol comes from the original term "automatic loading".
One of my old .32 revolvers is an Automatic, as in auto-ejecting when you break it open.
Well done McThag! I didn't have pictures of the detachable magazine chargers (mostly cause I don't have any, I have to load my mags the old-fashioned way) or the Garand's en-bloc clip, thanks for the link and thanks for dropping by!
No wise-assery necessary. Although it is not common parlance a revolver cylinder is quite properly a magazine.
For that matter, Ruger rotary magazines make the rifles they are used in quite properly revolvers.
Good point kfg, thanks for dropping by!
My better half picked up two packs of stripper clips for my Mosin, and deposited them in my stocking this past Christmas. Only had enough rounds on hand to load one and a half, dangit...the others look soooo lonely!
And I'll try to retrain my braincell with the proper clip/mag nomenclature. Why it can remember oddball quotes from obscure movies at the most inopportune times, yet not remember the useful (ie...marketable) stuff, I dunno.
Re: wise-assery.
I tried; I failed.
I'm weak of will power...
Fingers load guns.
Q
Kirk, you need some ammo!

Q, you of course are excused.
Thanks for dropping by!
Larry...yeah...I know. Need money, first. Gas prices coming back down into the stratosphere would be nice (and would still lead to gas companies posting quarterly profits).
Now can we talk about "point blank"?
I loved that movie!
Thanks for dropping by ASM826!
Great post, now do one on "cartridges vs. bullets"
There are so many subjects G, it's hard to pick one, but the clips vs magazines have always touched a nerve with me and I don't know why.
Thanks for dropping by!
Kind of surprising, for someone with a pet peeve such as this, one would think you would be very precise with the rest of your terminology:
"Load bullets on to CLIPS"
So interchanging "clips" and "magazines" bothers you, but referring to cartridges (the things that bullets go on) does not?
D'oh! You got me! You are absolutely right of course.
Fixed, and thanks for dropping by AZfederalist!
