A Marine 4 star General has been named to replace Gen David Petraeus as Commander, US Central Command.GEN James Mattis will take command effective immediately.
GEN Mattis is probably best known for his statements regarding the enthusiasm that he approached shooting bad guys with. I think my favorite came in the spring of 2003, during the first of his meetings with recently defeated Iraqi military leaders, when he famously said: "I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you f*ck with me, I'll kill you all."

Definitely a step up for CentComm. But how much control over Afghanistan will he have? Now we have the second hand picked by Obama general on the ground running Afghanistan - I think General Mattis has a delicate dance to dance.
Big Hint: Marines don't do delicate very well!
Especially not this Marine.
But, you don't get to be a four-star without developing an ability to politic. I think General Mattis will do well.
